The RAVES™ Eating Model
Used by dietitians, psychologists and doctors to support eating disorder recovery and challenge diet culture since 2006
What is RAVES™?
RAVES™ is a robust and evidence informed framework that supports the development of positive and sustainable relationships with food, mind, body and self. Through combining key eating principles, science and personal values, RAVES™ challenges diet culture and supports eating without a focus on numbers, just like nature intended. Developed by Australian Dietitian Shane Jeffrey in 2006, the RAVES™ eating model has been successfully helping people heal their relationship with food, for over 15 years. With years of clinical application in the fields of eating disorders, broader eating, weight and body image concerns, sports nutrition and chronic disease management, RAVES™ is the perfect back pocket tool to guide improved eating.
Why RAVES™?
In a world where eating has become unhelpfully too complicated (think counting calories, tracking your food, what is healthy and what is not), RAVES™ cuts through the noise and brings eating back to basics. Diet culture, and an unnecessary over emphasis on weight and the body ideal has largely contributed to overthinking and over analysing what and how to eat. RAVES™ is about keeping it simple while integrating the principles of nutritional science and personal values, which means it can be tailored to meet your individual needs.
What RAVES™ offers!
In a nutshell, RAVES™ offers food freedom. As a simple, structured, and uncomplicated ‘back pocket’ guide, RAVES™ provides a framework for unpacking food rules and dietary restriction without the need to count or track. RAVES™ unashamedly supports the non diet approach to eating and is consistent with the Health at Every Size® (HAES®) philosophy of health and wellbeing. In summary, if you can put a tick next to each of the 5 key principles in the RAVES™ eating model, you can be confident that your relationship with food will be in a good place.
The Development of RAVES™
Initially developed in the mid 2000’s as an in house tool to train dietitians and psychologists working in the field of eating disorders, the model was quickly adopted by health professionals and clients far and wide. RAVES™ has since been presented at national and international conferences and been the focus on a number of podcasts. With extensive application over the past 15 years in the treatment of eating disorders and other eating, weight and body image concerns, RAVES™ is now a go-to resource for many dietitians, psychologists, and doctors across Australia, the US and the UK.
